I believe it would become much more difficult to manipulate their polls if our nation's local media were handling their own. You can already find the discrepancies of these polls when you compare the one's they broadcast with the one's they have here on the internet. Good luck convincing 3/4 of state legislatures to do it all on the same day. I think gerrymandering in of itself shows how self seeking legislatures can be. Since canditates can't be in 50 states at the same time they rely hugely on advertising.
