Because there was no Enlightenment in the Islamic world, no secular tradition, everything revolves around the Word of Allah and the example of his prophet. Sure, Christians can do some horrible things according to the Bible, but look at 3rd world areas that are majority Christian right now. If some Twilight Zone thing happened tonight and we woke up in a world where all the 3rd world countries were Xian and all the rich, developed, comfortable countries were Muslim, then the Xians would be the suicide bombers and extremists and the Muslims would be the fat, lazy near-secular moderates.
