Description: Why Videogame addiction is not a mental disorder. |

oryppyro ::: Favorites So typical! The healthcare industry in the United States is a complete joke. Their solution to everything is to throw a pill at it; to cure the symptoms, not the disease. This isn't even an actual mental issue. It reminds me of how now so many kids are on meds for ADHD; I have my doubts that all those kids really have it. I mean I've met kids who, no doubt in my mind, totally have ADHD, but I think a lot of them just have behavioral problems or they are just being kids. 07-07-04 18:21:58 __________________________________________________
oryppyro ::: Favorites News Flash: an eight year old isn't supposed to sit in one place 6 hours a day and listen without wanting to move around. These are kids, not little adults; they're supposed to want to play and not want to sit quietly being bored. I think that these two situations are symptoms of the same two illnesses in our country: the first being, the inability of the American people to take responsibility for anything. And the second, the gigantic mess we call our healthcare system. 07-07-04 18:22:50 __________________________________________________
geroldkid ::: Favorites That's very true, parents do want to make kids look like little adults so they don't have to take any responsibility. It's a degradation of parental ethics. 07-07-07 01:46:09 __________________________________________________
pherenika ::: Favorites I agree with you - I do think people can get "addicted" to video games, but seriously: Drugs? I can't stop thinking about the KITH movie Eye Candy every time I hear news like this. Drugs is just a way to cure the symptoms, but very seldom the addiction it itself. Sweden uses a lot psychotherapy (not that I am saying our health care the best in the world) and I think that is a good thing. More longterm and goes down to the root of the problem. 07-06-28 07:03:12 __________________________________________________
xlaurax1612 ::: Favorites im addicted to the internet - can i get drugs??? that is such a stupid idea, an addiction like that cant be cured by drugs, if it really is so out of hand that thier parents cant cope they need therapy, thats the only way to help in the long term. 07-06-27 07:13:27 __________________________________________________

CityzenJane ::: Favorites I think it's high time folks ask why people are getting so addictive and compulsive though... and rather than medicate - change the way we live our lives. 07-06-24 12:26:33 __________________________________________________
CityzenJane ::: Favorites its nuts. there is a great issue of adbusters where they cover this and 'mad pride' -- or really what it boils down to is the right not to be 'normal' 'normalized' for the convenience of others. ( excepting perhaps people that are clearly harming themselves or others) 07-06-24 12:25:01 __________________________________________________ |
